Abstract:
This study aims to uncover the level of efficiency of ChatGPT in a classroom setting and its influence on students grades and motivation, as well as identifying the ethical implications of AI in schools. Two grade twelve classes are taught about hormonal transmission in a 5 E inquiry setting: an experimental class of 29 students that uses ChatGPT, and a control class of 27 students that does not use ChatGPT during the lesson. The instruments used to collect data are: an oral interview with the teacher, an observation grid, and a test to compare grades of both classes.
The results show that ChatGPT enhances grades and motivation in class. Most of the students and the teacher think that ChatGPT is a great tool that eases the learning process but requires guidance and training on how to use it in an ethical and just manner.
