The Impact of the University’s Educational and Research Mission on the Intellectual Development of Students

يعالج هذا البحث تأثير رسالة الجامعة التعليميّة والبحثيّة على تطوّر الفكريّ للطلّاب، فرسالة الجامعة تتحدّد في كونها فضاءً لتكوين العقل النقديّ والوعي التاريخيّ عبر إتاحة مفردات أخلاقيّة وسياسيّة مشتركة، تمكّن الإنسان من الإسهام الواعي في الارتقاء بالإنسانيّة. ويلحظ البحث أن الجامعة لا تقتصر على نقل المعارف، بل تسعى إلى تشكيل إنسان متحضّر، حكيم، وقادر على الاندماج الخلّاق في مجتمعه، بما يلبّي حاجات البيئة المحليّة من مواطنين مسؤولين وكفاءات مدرَّبة وخدمات عامّة.
غير أنّ البحث يشير إلى أن هذا المشروع يصطدم بإشكاليّة بنيويّة تتمثّل في غياب تقاليد تربويّة راسخة، ما يطرح سؤال إمكان الانتقال من تعليم مجرّد ولا شخصيّ إلى تعليم يتمحور حول الشخص، في ظلّ غموض اجتماعيّ وفلسفيّ حول غايات التربية، وصورة المستقبل الإنسانيّ المراد بناؤه.

- Abstract:
The mission of the university is defined as a space for cultivating critical reason and historical consciousness through the articulation of shared ethical and political vocabularies that enable human beings to contribute consciously to the advancement of humanity. The university is not limited to the transmission of knowledge; rather, it seeks to shape a cultivated and wise individual, capable of creative integration within society, thereby responding to local needs for responsible citizens, trained competencies, and public services. Yet this project encounters a structural challenge rooted in the absence of well-established educational traditions, raising the question of whether it is possible to move from abstract and impersonal instruction to a person-centered form of education amid social and philosophical ambiguity regarding the aims of education and the vision of the human future being prepared.

* Marwan Khalil Mouawad: is a Lebanese researcher. He is preparing a doctoral dissertation in philosophy at the Higher Doctoral Institute of the Lebanese University. The title of his dissertation is “The Pragmatic Foundations in the Philosophy of John Dewey and Richard Rorty: Intellectual, Social, and Anthropological Dimensions”. The dissertation is supervised by Prof. Dr. Georges Fares.
